“I enjoy searching for ideas that give me the opportunity to work with myself, my emotions, and my relationship with those around me.”

A perfectionist, stubborn, introverted. The worst thing for me? Speaking in public and promoting myself!

My name is Niki Spartali, and photography has been an important part of who I am since I was 15. For me, photography means creation, a way of expressing myself, a way of bringing out all those things I have in my mind but cannot put into words.

Of course, things were not that “simple” from the beginning. Looking back, I remember struggling to express myself without really knowing how… What I had in mind and the final result did not always come together.

Although my studies in photography gave me an important foundation, it took me quite some time before I was able to express through photography what I had in my mind.

I experiment with different photographic and visual approaches, mixed media, materials, analogue processes and moving image, choosing each time the medium that can best serve the idea. I like searching for ideas that give me the opportunity to explore myself, my emotions, and my relationship with the people around me. For me, this is my path, and I don’t know where it will lead.

Teaching is a big part of my work because I believe in people who want to express themselves creatively. I love seeing my students bring out the best in themselves through photography. I also love the way they push me to keep evolving, again and again, and never remain still.

When I take on a professional photography assignment, I try to work closely and harmoniously with my clients, to understand what they want and the vision they have in mind. Their needs become personal to me and, with particular attention to every detail, I always strive for the best possible result.
